Severe Thunderstorms and Heavy Rains in the Southern Plains, Northwest, and Upper Midwest

Heavy to severe thunderstorms may bring areas of excessive rainfall and flooding over parts of the southern Plains through Friday. There is an increased risk of flash flooding in east Texas today. There is a marginal risk of severe weather over central and southern Montana today. Thunderstorms will develop over the mountains of central Montana this afternoon then spread east during the evening, with strong outflow winds possible.
Smoke from the Canadian wildfires has moved across the region overnight. Even with gusty east to southeast winds, this smoke is expected to linger across the region today with reduced visibility and unhealthy air quality. Everyone should limit time outdoors.
A Lake Wind Advisory is in effect until 6 pm Thursday for east wind 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph which can lead to wave heights of up to 4 feet over the open lake that could tip or swamp small craft.
The full moon for June is known as the Strawberry Moon as wild strawberries are ripe and ready to be gathered. It will be the lowest full moon in the southern sky since 2006 and will be only 13 degrees above the horizon at its peak height between 1 am and 2 am.
